(AP) ? New York Republican Congressman Peter King is warning his party not to abandon its longstanding emphasis on national defense as he launches a two-day tour of New Hampshire.

The 11-term congressman sipped Coke and posed for pictures Sunday evening at a backyard barbecue deep in the state's Lakes Region, an event that served as a coming-out party of sorts for King's presidential ambitions. He says he is at least a year away from a final decision, but King has officially joined the ballooning group of Republican leaders teasing a presidential bid.

"I believe the Republican Party would be receptive to my candidacy," King said ahead of the New Hampshire visit.

Though his congressional seniority offers him considerable influence in Washington, King is largely unknown across New Hampshire, the small state expected to host the nation's first presidential primary contests more than two years from now.

King, 69, talks openly about a possible presidential bid when asked, but has yet to conduct polling, expand his staff or court new donors, steps necessary for serious contenders. Yet he arrived in New Hampshire Sunday evening, his first visit here since campaigning for Rudolph Giuliani's presidential bid in 2008. King plans to spend much of Monday in the state.

"We are the Number 1 target in the world of Islamic terrorists," King declared before an audience of roughly 50 people ? his wife, daughter and two grandchildren among them ? as they ate barbecued chicken on a retired New York fire chief's back deck.

"I would love if we never had to send one solider overseas, or if we never had to be involved in any country in the world. But we live in a dangerous world and we don't have that luxury," King said. "We have to go back to being the party of national defense."

His remarks came minutes after the State Department announced plans to keep facilities in 19 cities closed through the end of the week because of terrorist "chatter."

King, chairman of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence, is perhaps best known in national politics for a hawkish approach on national security. He says his presidential bid would be designed, in part, to balance the increasingly vocal libertarian wing of the GOP ? led by possible presidential contenders like Sens. Rand Paul, R-Ky., and Ted Cruz, R-Texas ? who support significant reductions in U.S. foreign aid and military involvement abroad.

King downplayed specific criticism while speaking in New Hampshire Sunday night, but cited Paul by name in an interview before the trip.

"If I do run, I intend to win. But certainly, it's added incentive to prevent the isolationist wing of the party from taking over," King said. "Someone like Rand Paul has set the Republican Party back 50 years."

Those who attended Sunday's barbecue largely agreed with King's view, although they were quick to point out that the election is years away.

"He's straightforward, very blunt. I like that," said barbecue host Don Rowan, a former fire chief from King's Long Island district who moved to New Hampshire several years ago. "But the election is a long way off. You never know."

King isn't on the radar for many veterans of presidential politics in New Hampshire and Washington, although political operatives suggest that it's impossible to predict the political climate in 2016. In an election focused on national security, King would enjoy an inherent advantage.

"Representative King is the classic definition of a primary long-shot, but New Hampshire traditionally provides a fair hearing to all presidential candidates, both well-known and obscure," said Republican strategist Jim Merrill, who led Mitt Romney's New Hampshire campaign.

King says he already has at least two more New Hampshire visits planned.

Bird Poop Facials? Unusual Beauty Treatments

Forget collagen injections or seaweed facials. Some beauty regimens use even more unusual ingredients to achieve that perfect, glowing complexion.

Across the globe, beauty treatments can include unfamiliar components from bird feces to snails to blood injections, all used for the one goal of keeping the customer looking young and beautiful.

But be forewarned: It seems the more unusual the ingredient the larger the price tag. We've rounded up a few of the most outrageous treatments available, but we make no promises on what you'll look like at the end of them.

Most Outrageous Beauty Treatments

At the Shizuka New York skin care salon in Manhattan, you can "boost" your complexion by signing up for the "Geisha Facial," which involves steam treatment, aroma therapy and a paste made from powdered nightingale feces.

Shizuka Bernstein has been offering the facials at $180 a pop for about five years.

"I try to bring Japanese beauty secrets to the United States," Bernstein told The Associated Press.

According to Bernstein, only nightingale feces are used because nightingales subsist on seeds that have an enzyme that works as an active ingredient in the facial.

Most Outrageous Beauty Treatments

If you want a more "lively" facial, you can always try a snail facial. Available in a Tokyo salon, the snail facial involves live snails slowly marching their way across your face leaving behind the prized snail slime.

According to the U.K.'s Telegraph the treatment is called the "Celebrity Escargot Course," and costs about $250.

According to the snail facial devotees, the slime helps treat dry skin and soothe sunburn, leaving behind a rejuvenated complexion. However, those who are a squeamish at the idea of snails crawling on their face can try the salon's "snail lotion." No live bugs involved.

Most Outrageous Beauty Treatments

With the success of "True Blood," "Twilight" and "The Vampire Diaries," it appears the pop culture vampire craze is not ending anytime soon. The bloodsuckers are so popular they have even inspired the "Vampire Face-Lift."

Plastic Surgery Boots Youthfulness, Not Attractiveness

While there are no fangs involved, the procedure involves drawing blood to be used in facial injections. Using technology called Selphyl, a doctor draws blood, treats it and injects it back into the patient's face to smooth any unwanted wrinkles.

Dr. Andre Berger of the Rejuvalife Vitality Institute in Beverly Hills, Calif., said procedure was becoming more and more popular.

"I think this whole recent theme in the entertainment industry... of using vampire, Dracula themes has definitely caused a lot of the interest out there," Berger said.

Unfortunately, the treatments do not mean that you or your smoother skin will last forever. Instead the results last for approximately 15 months, according to Berger.

A 'Face-Slapping' Treatment

To keep the wrinkles at bay, a San Francisco masseuse slaps the age right off her customers' faces. Rassameesaitarn Wongsirodkul, aka Tata, offers the "Face Slapping" treatment at Tata Massage for $350 per treatment.

Each treatment lasts approximately 15 to 20 minutes and can leave skin firmer for about six months, according to the Tata Massage website. In an online video, Tata says she was proud to bring face-slapping knowledge to the West.

"Face slapping brings out your hidden beauty potential, without invasive procedures. And it's 100 percent chemical free," Tata says in an online video.

Not only is the treatment chemical free, but Tata will even personalize the massage so that customers unhappy with their frown lines or crows feet can have Tata focus on erasing them.

Bull Semen Hair Treatment

For those with a great complexion but dull hair, there are plenty of options to give your hair some body without resorting to plain old hairspray.

In London the Hari Salon was so committed to finding the perfect product for clients with limp hair that they experimented with a Bull Semen Hair Treatment. According to the owners Katherine and Hari Salem, the treatment infuses the hair with protein, making it stronger without weighing it down.

"The results speak for themselves. The hair is soft but not lank," said Katherine Salem.

India partly revokes Roche cancer drug patent

ZURICH | Sun Aug 4, 2013 3:54pm IST

ZURICH (Reuters) - India has partly revoked patents granted to Roche Holding AG (ROG.VX) for its breast cancer drug Herceptin, a spokesman for the drugmaker confirmed on Sunday.

Swiss newspaper Schweiz am Sonntag reported that the Kolkata Patent Office had lifted divisional patents for Herceptin on July 17 on the grounds they had not been properly submitted.

"I can confirm that the Assistant Controller of Patents at the Kolkata Patent Office has revoked divisional patents of Herceptin and that we are now considering the further course of action," a spokesman for Roche said.

The decision is the latest in a series of rulings on intellectual property and pricing in India that have frustrated attempts by Western drugmakers to sell their medicines in India's fast-growing drugs market.

On Friday, India revoked a patent granted to GlaxoSmithKline's (GSK.L) for breast cancer drug Tykerb, following on from a landmark court ruling in April disallowing patents for incremental innovations.

Roche has already adapted its business model in India to increase affordable access to drugs and try to stave off trouble from India's patent authorities.

In August 2012, it introduced cut-price versions of Herceptin and another cancer drug MabThera, under an alliance with Indian generics firm Emcure Pharmaceutics.

Last year, India revoked patents granted to Roche's hepatitis C drug Pegasys, Pfizer Inc's (PFE.N) cancer drug Sutent, and Merck & Co's (MRK.N) asthma treatment aerosol suspension formulation. All were revoked on grounds that included lack of innovation.

Mother of Arkansas escapee is arrested for helping him: report

(Reuters) - The mother of an Arkansas inmate who escaped from a Hot Springs jail by slithering through a window is in police custody but the inmate is still at large, a jail official said on Friday.

Glenda Estell, 54, the mother of escaped inmate Derrick Estell, was arrested Friday, according to a Garland County Sheriff's Office official, who declined to be named. Arrest documents published the website of television station KTHV said she is accused of assisting in her son's July 28 escape.

Derrick Estell was being held for trial on 26 charges including burglary, theft and drug-related offenses.

According to a sheriff's department probable cause affidavit, Derrick Estell made 40 calls to his mother over a month, and their conversations contained "random mentions of the plan for Derrick to escape custody."

According to the sheriff's office, Derrick Estell was in a visitation room talking on a phone at the Garland County Detention Center during the weekend as another inmate diverted the guards' attention by asking questions.

When the guards left the visiting area to look up the answers to the questions, Estell squeezed through the window - used to deliver papers and other items to inmates in the visitation room - and ran to a waiting car.
