According to Merriam Webster's Dictionary, ethics is the principles of conduct governing an individual or a group. This is an interpretive definition; it changes depending on culture, and that is why teaching ethics for a globalizing economy is rather difficult for current business schools.
A great example of the difference in ethics is the use of bribery. In some countries, the practice of bribery is acceptable, to lube the gears of government in order to get approval for certain business ventures. Recently, Walmart was accused of bribery in Mexico to attain build permits for new stores, but it also runs rampant in India, China, and Russia. Keep in mind that three of those countries are included in the BRIC countries.
The question that needs to be addressed is how do we teach our future CEOs of global businesses how to act ethically?
As an accounting student of the B-school here at Michigan State University, we, like many other business schools, learned ethics through a white collar criminal. He has short white hair, dressed well, and in his 50?s. His name, Andrew Fastow. Once the financial director of Enron, now the ethics ?professor? of many business schools worldwide. He told his story and asked what we would have done in his shoes. His talk fostered debates on where one would cross the line. It made the topic real and tangible, something not easy to accomplish using PowerPoints.
Ethics is something hard to be taught. There is no hard and fast rule for determining if a decision is ethical. Regulations, including the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, have not prevented fraud. Enron, like other failed companies, viewed the complexity of the rules as an opportunity to game the system. As the world is globalizing, we need to concentrate on ethics teachings more in business schools so that the next generation can see the difference between window dressing a transaction or doing it for a valid business purpose. There is no global consensus on what is morally ethical, but adding it to curriculum in business schools globally sure won?t hurt the cause.

WASHINGTON (AP) ? "We need answers on this. Not defensive BS. Real answers."
In email exchanges with subordinates in February and March 2011, Attorney General Eric Holder and the department's second-highest official expressed growing concern that something might have gone wrong in a federal gun-smuggling probe called Operation Fast and Furious.
Two of Holder's emails and one by Deputy Attorney General James Cole were among documents the Justice Department showed Tuesday to Republican and Democratic staffers of the House Oversight and Government Affairs Committee in an effort to ward off a criminal contempt vote against the attorney general.
The full contents of the emails were described to The Associated Press by two people who have seen them. Both people spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak about them publicly.
For the past year and a half, some Republicans have promoted the idea that Holder and other top-level officials at the Justice Department knew federal agents in Operation Fast and Furious had engaged in a risky tactic known as "gun-walking."
Two of Holder's emails and one from Cole appear to show that they hadn't known about gun-walking but were determined to find out whether the allegations were true.
When relying on the technique of gun-walking, federal agents tried to track suspected illicit gun-buyers instead of arresting them. The hope was that the low-level "straw" purchasers would lead law enforcement to major arms-traffickers, enabling the agents to dismantle networks that had put tens of thousands of guns into the hands of Mexican drug cartels. In Operation Fast and Furious, the tracking effort failed. The operation identified over 2,000 illicitly purchased weapons. Some 1,400 of them have yet to be recovered.
The emails by Holder and Cole followed a hurried assurance by the Justice Department on Feb. 4, 2011, to Sen. Chuck Grassley, the senior Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee. No such tactic was used, the Justice Department said in a letter to Grassley. The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives "makes every effort to interdict weapons that have been purchased illegally and prevent their transportation to Mexico," the letter added. The letter was based on incorrect assurances supplied to the Justice Department by the U.S. Attorney's office in Phoenix and by ATF officials. The department withdrew the Feb. 4 letter on Dec. 2, 2011, after documenting what had taken place not only in Operation Fast and Furious, but in three other gun-walking operations going back to 2006.
At the Justice Department on Thursday, spokeswoman Nanda Chitre declined to comment about the e-mails.
After the Feb. 4 letter to Grassley, news stories appeared containing allegations of gun-walking. The Justice Department was awash in conflicting opinions over whether the media accounts were correct.
CBS News ran a story on Feb. 23, 2011. On March 3, CBS followed up, and the nonprofit Center for Public Integrity weighed in with its own online account.
On Feb. 23, aides passed along to the attorney general the CBS story alleging gun-walking, and the attorney general shot back, "We need answers on this. Not defensive BS. Real answers."
Five days later, Holder asked the Justice Department's inspector general to investigate.
On March 3, Cole, the No. 2 official at the Justice Department, emailed his staff: "We obviously need to get to the bottom of this."
Holder was skeptical of any assurances.
"I hope the AG understands that we did not allow guns to walk," an official at the ATF's Washington headquarters said on March 10 in an email that Holder's aides forwarded to the attorney general.
In a response, Holder wrote, "Do they really, really know" that there was no gun-walking?
A day earlier, at Holder's instruction, the Justice Department had sent out a directive to the field reinforcing a longtime Justice Department policy against gun-walking. The directive said that agents must not allow guns to cross the border into Mexico.

Government Refinance Applications More Than Double in Latest ...
WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 20, 2012)? Mortgage applications decreased 0.8 percent from one week earlier, according to data from the Mortgage Bankers Association?s (MBA) Weekly Mortgage Applications Survey for the week ending June 15, 2012.
The Market Composite Index, a measure of mortgage loan application volume, decreased 0.8 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis from one week earlier. On an unadjusted basis, the Index decreased more than 1 percent compared with the previous week. The Refinance Index increased 1 percent from the previous week. The seasonally adjusted Purchase Index fell 9 percent from one week earlier. The unadjusted Purchase Index decreased more than 9 percent compared with the previous week and was 2 percent lower than the same week one year ago.
?Refinance volume increased again last week, but the composition of activity changed markedly. Despite rates remaining near all-time lows, conventional refinance application volume declined, and the HARP share of refinance activity dropped to 20 percent,? said Michael Fratantoni, MBA?s Vice President of Research and Economics. ?On the other hand, FHA refinance volume exploded to an all-time high, more than doubling over the week. New, lower FHA premiums on streamlined refinance loans came fully into effect, and borrowers seized the opportunity to lower their mortgage rates without increasing their FHA premiums. Purchase activity fell off last week, but this is likely only a recalibration following the Memorial Day holiday, as the level of activity remains within the narrow band seen for the past 3 years.?
The refinance share of mortgage activity increased to 81 percent of total applications from 79 percent the previous week. The adjustable-rate mortgage (ARM) share of activity decreased to 4 percent of total applications.
During the month of May, the investor share of applications for home purchase was at 6 percent, unchanged from the previous month, even though regions including East South Central and South Atlantic increased by 0.5 percent.
The average contract interest rate for 30-year fixed-rate mortgages with conforming loan balances ($417,500 or less) decreased to 3.87 percent, matching the lowest rate in the history of the survey, from 3.88 percent, with points increasing to 0.49 from 0.43 (including the origination fee) for 80 percent loan-to-value ratio (LTV) loans. The effective rate increased from last week.
The average contract interest rate for 30-year fixed-rate mortgages with jumbo loan balances (greater than $417,500) decreased to 4.06 percent, the lowest rate in the history of the survey, from 4.12 percent, with points decreasing to 0.38 from 0.41 (including the origination fee) for 80 percent LTV loans. The effective rate decreased from last week.
The average contract interest rate for 30-year fixed-rate mortgages backed by the FHA increased to 3.72 percent from 3.71 percent, with points decreasing to 0.47 from 0.59 (including the origination fee) for 80 percent LTV loans. The effective rate decreased from last week.
The average contract interest rate for 15-year fixed-rate mortgages increased to 3.25 percent from 3.23 percent, with points decreasing to 0.45 from 0.48 (including the origination fee) for 80 percent LTV loans. The effective rate increased from last week.
The average contract interest rate for 5/1 ARMs decreased to 2.75 percent, the lowest rate in the history of the survey, from 2.78 percent, with points decreasing to 0.33 from 0.49 (including the origination fee) for 80 percent LTV loans. The effective rate decreased from last week.

NBA draft stocked with Wildcats, Tar Heels
Kentucky and North Carolina appear headed for an NBA-first during Thursday night's draft.
The two marquee college basketball programs each will likely have four players selected in the first round, starting with UK's Anthony Davis ? the all-but-certain No. 1 overall pick.
If that happens, it would be the first time two schools accounted for eight first-rounders ? possibly in the first 20 picks ? in the same draft since the NBA went to its current two-round format in 1989. And the number could grow to as high as 10.
Kentucky "brought in a lot of guys, but what was great about the talent was the way they were able to play with each other," said Ryan Blake, senior director of NBA scouting operations. "I think that's what's so valuable ? not just the physical skill side, but the ability to play the roles in the team format.
"North Carolina also brought in enormous talent and they were able to work on their games for a number of years. It's just unusual. I don't know if it'll be done again."
On the Kentucky side, forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist could go right behind Davis at No. 2 and doesn't seem likely to slip out of the top seven. Blake expects forward Terrence Jones to go anywhere from No. 6 to No. 15, while guard Marquis Teague is likely a mid-to-late first-round pick.
As for North Carolina, Blake expects Harrison Barnes to go somewhere between No. 3 and No. 10, long-armed forward John Henson between No. 5 and No. 15, and 7-footer Tyler Zeller between No. 6 and No. 20. Blake said point Kendall Marshall, regarded as one of the top point guards in the draft, is a likely mid-to-late first-rounder.
Kentucky's Doron Lamb and Darius Miller also have a chance to be first-round selections.
Since the NBA went to a two-round draft in 1989, only four schools ? Duke in 1999, North Carolina in 2005, Connecticut in 2006 and Kentucky in 2010 ? have had at least four first-round picks in the same draft, with the Wildcats setting a record with five two years ago, according to STATS LLC.
The closest two schools came to accounting for eight first-round picks was when Florida and Ohio State each had three in 2007. The schools had five of the first nine selections ? including top overall pick Greg Oden, Al Horford and Joakim Noah ? and the sixth coming in at No. 21.
This year's haul could even create some lighthearted competition in the green room of players waiting to hear their name called.

TechCrunch's Ingrid Lunden was among the first to call attention to the new feature, after a developer tipped her off.
You can access?Find Friends Nearby either through the iOS or Android?Facebook apps ? just open up the main?menu, tap "Apps," select "Find Friends," press "Other Tools," and then pick "Find Friends Nearby"?? or by?heading to http://fb.com/ffn?on your mobile device.
Note that you'll have to authorize either the apps or your browser to access your current location. This doesn't mean that?you're allowing either to reveal your location all the time though. As soon as you leave the Find Friends Nearby page, you'll be off the radar once again. Forum for completely Out of Character (OOC) discussion, based around whatever is happening In Character (IC). Discuss plans, storylines, and events; Recruit for your roleplaying game, or find a GM for your playergroup.Kalandor-This is the main city where the current King lives. He rules over all of Terrathiea, and has made treaties with almost all of the races except for the people in Slith and the demons. Demons is only because they tend to stay in the demon plane, and the few that do live in Terrathiea tend to stick to the darkness of Slith. Nobles live in the upper part of the city, near the castle, while the not so well off live further away. However no one is truly poor, and for the most part it is a calm and well off place.
Slith-A city built inside of the Slith cave full of the unwanted, there is a black market here that you can buy almost everything from silk to silver bark. Be very careful when you go here, keep an eye on your purse and your back. The occasional demon live here, but again they are few and far between.
Lithirum-The elven city inside of Lorerum woods, it is ruled by the elven king and queen. The buildings are blended beautifully into the nature, never clashing with it. Even the very few ruins seem to fit perfectly in. There is one in that translate roughly in Fallen Leaf, though there is hardly any travelers that pass through, they are always ready for the off chance.
Kerra-The major port city next to Karrash ocean, it is a lively place with the nobles farthest away from the ocean but close enough to the beach, and the poor class nearer to the port. Also along the port there are pubs, taverns, brothels, and bars. It is rife with thieving and bar fights but for the most part everyone is happy. It has a mayor that rules, and also the mer leader comes to talk to them every once and while.
Azirith-A city nestled inside of Langish desert. There is a prince inside the lavish palace, a prince that wanders the city from time to time to make sure that everything is ok. Though there are the occasional thieves and ruffians, he does his best to keep things in order. He does have a wife that loves him dearly, but she isn't much of a ruler.
There are also the Karidan villages, but they are not ruled by anyone. They are run by the priests and priestess, and are kind to everyone of almost every race. They are polite to the demons but warn them not to cause trouble.
