British government defends Olympic security plans

(AP) ? The top British official in charge of the Olympics has defended the government's actions in providing security for the games after a major contractor failed to provide enough security guards

Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt told the BBC on Sunday that it was not the time to cast blame for G4S's failure to deliver the 10,400 guards it had promised for the games that start July 27 and end Aug. 12.

Hunt says the government acted quickly, and activated contingency plans to bring in in an extra 3,500 troops as soon as it realized G4S would not be able to meet its contract.

He says it is the moment to pull together, and G4S acted honorably in identifying its problems.
