Job Description

The Pastoral Counseling graduate programs department at Loyola University Maryland is recruiting a full-time (10-month) faculty position beginning July 1, 2013. This position is for an associate or full professor who is currently tenured at a qualified institution who has the credentials to Chair the pastoral counseling department at the time of hire. We seek faculty members who share our vision for training highly competent professional counselors; who demonstrate integrating spirituality into their counseling model; who have an active program of related research and scholarship; and, who have demonstrated leadership in the counseling field. Our CACREP accredited master's and doctoral programs prepare graduates for academic, clinical, administrative, and/or research careers in the field of professional counseling. The program interprets human behavior holistically, as an integration of individuals' psychological, intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual dimensions.

The position responsibilities include: teaching 4 MS and/or PhD graduate-level CACREP courses per year (2 per semester), providing departmental leadership, strong mentoring for tenure-track faculty, representing the department at the university level, advising MS and PhD students, and engaging in advanced-level research and scholarship that involves the integration of spiritual/religious themes with counseling and psychology. Research duties also involve providing leadership on dissertation committees. The successful candidate will be, at the time of hire, a tenured faculty member at another qualified university with an established record of successful and distinguished teaching and research (quantitative and/or qualitative), and professional writing involving spiritual/religious/faith themes in counseling. Further, the successful candidate is expected to be a leader in the Counselor Education and/or Pastoral Counseling fields at state and national levels.

Applicants must possess a doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision, or closely related field, preferably from a CACREP accredited program, and have successfully taught for several years at the graduate level (preferably in a CACREP accredited program) and preferably in a doctoral degree-conferring program. Candidates must be licensed or license eligible in Maryland as a professional counselor or a closely related field.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate commitment to promoting the Jesuit and Catholic Mission of the University, appreciation of the ecumenical nature of our program, and sensitivity to the experiences of our religiously-committed student population. Background in the Jesuit and/or Catholic spiritual/theological tradition is a desired qualification for the position.
